David Cox O.W.S. (1783-1859) - A Fallen Tree Trunk

David Cox O.W.S. (1783-1859) - A Fallen Tree Trunk

A typical detailed study by the watercolourist David Cox showing his interest in a recently fallen tree. Cox has skillfully used sepia washes to create different tones and depth to the picture. The watercolour has excellent provenance and has recently been re-mounted with an acid free mount and newly glazed with museum glass Tru Vue.

Medium: watercolour and sepia on paper, 13 x 21 cm, framed. Inscribed on back of watercolour 'Original Sketch David Cox'.

Provenance: Spink & Son, London, cat.no.K3/1035 (a photograph of the label is included on the back of the picture, it was lost during the work being re-glazed).

Condition report: the picture is in excellent condition for its age.
