George Drury (b.1950) - Heavy Weather - Big Class Yachts off Dartmouth 1935

George Drury is a British maritime artist who specialises in yacht racing paintings. This work depicts a scene from the West Country Regatta at Dartmouth in August 1935.  After a week of light winds, stronger south-westerlies finally arrived for the season’s final race. Racing on 30 August was abandoned as conditions were deemed too dangerous, and although the following day was calmer, only four of the ‘Big Class’ yachts took to the start line.

Medium: oil on board, signed l.l. 'G Drury', 38 x 48cm (framed 47.4 x 57.4cm). Inscribed verso 'Heavy Weather - Big Class Yachts off Dartmouth 1935' and signed by the artist along with his email address.

Condition report: generally very good for its age with a small bit of time staining which is not very obvious. Frame shows a bit of wear with a mark at the bottom. Please see photos.
