Nicholas Pocock O.W.S. (1740-1821) - Eaglestones, Hastings
This is an excellent example of Nicholas Pocock's studies of locations he visited. Here, he depicted a scene at 'Eaglestones, Hastings'. It displays an east view along the Sussex coast showing Hastings beach with the ruins of Hastings Castle on a distant hill. Boats along the shore show the extent of the harbour at circa. 1800 and the town's reliance on fishing.
