Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) - Lone Sail in the Swell

This impressive watercolour by Wilkinson is reminiscent of other marine artists such as David James (1853-1904) and also Montague Dawson (1890-1973) where the main emphasis is on the sea with a lone sailing boat in the distance. Wilkinson has used blues, greens and white to portray the powerful swell of the sea. The shaded colouring of the boat shows its fragile nature in the vast and open ocean.

Medium: Pencil and watercolour on paper, signed l.l. 'NORMAN WILKINSON', 32 x 50.5cm, framed (60 x 77cm).

Condition report: Generally very good for its age. The picture has recently been glazed with ARTGLASS AR70 and it also has a new acid free triple mount. The frame shows a small amount of wear.
