Peter De Wint (1784-1849) - Landscape with buildings on a hill, Derbyshire(?)
This interesting chalk study by De Wint is similar to another work that we currently have for sale that was taken from a Derbyshire sketchbook and posssibly depicts the village of Bonsall. Our work is from the same private collection and could easily be linked. The tower visible in this picture is different to the church spire in the Bonsall drawing, although the topography could put it in the same part of the country. De Wint has used white chalk to highlight areas of the sketch.
Medium: pencil with black and white chalk on paper, 16 x 24 cm, framed.
Provenance: Private collection, England, catalogue number 1070/3 (verso).
